1. INTRODUCTION
HDB1012 Community Engagement Project (CEP) is a
compulsory course offered to all UTP students as part of MPU (Mata Pelajaran
Umum / General Studies) National requirement prescribed by the Ministry of
Education Malaysia. This course is a project-based activity, categorized under
MPU4, to complement MPU1, MPU2 and MPU3 courses that are based on knowledge,
skills, morals, value, patriotism and towering personality. The course is
designed to ensure that students will acquire some of those basic elements to
be applied in CEP as to support students’ development. The social and value emphasis
on this community based project is in line with UTP mission to produce well-rounded
graduates with a broad-minded, balanced and holistic views.
In this course, students are required to form a
group of five (5) to plan
and execute any CEP with the approval of UTP MPU4 Committees.
2. OBJECTIVE, CRITERIA AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
The objective of the course is to develop
students with the ability to apply soft skill knowledge involving social
graces, communication, critical thinking, teamwork and leadership.
CEP course would acquire the following learning
criteria:
a) A teamwork project
consists of five (5) members per group to organize any activity or program that
is based on community and human development.
b) Run entirely by
students with monitoring and assessment by supervisor(s).
c) Project or
activity must be agreed upon by students and supervisor(s) and approved by MPU4 committees.
d) Involved out of
class activities.
e) Each course is
worth 2 credit hours which is equivalent to 80 hours Student Learning Time
(SLT).
f) The project
should apply the following transferable skills:
a. Communication
skills
b. Critical
thinking and problem solving skills
c. Accountability
and social skills
d. Teamwork and
leadership skills
At the end of this
course, students should be able to:
1) plan a community engagement project.
2) implement community engagement project with a targeted community.
